EZ Able® - Background
Our Passion
Where did EZ Able® start? It started in middle school. Seriously - in middle school. Mr. Elzinga, a middle school gym teacher, asked a young teenager to help teach physically challenged kids how to swim. Jody Fisk, the founder of EZ Able®, answered that call. Sometimes when you set out to teach someone else, you are the person that learns the most valuable lesson. Jody learned that if there is a will, then there is a way. The kids she "taught", tried harder, were happier and learned to swim despite their physical limitations.
Sometimes the biggest challenge any of us face, is finding ways to expand the thinking in our own heads. From that time, Jody holds a huge amount of respect and admiration for people who strive to overcome physical limitations.
Our Belief
It is an individual's choice to live independently. EZ Able® wants to be there, with client-centered solutions, that help people find the way to their goal. We don't provide products, we provide solutions.
The Spark for EZ Able®
While showcasing her work in the 2006 Parade of Homes, Jody Fisk, a licensed builder since 1991, heard several attendees ask why no one was building accessible homes, noting their stories of parents being forced from their newly-built dream homes due to the inaccessibility of doorways, showers and stairs.
She responded, “Good question,” and started looking for builders that were specializing Universal Design. Intrigued by not easily finding anyone promoting accessible home-building, she went on to build an accessible or “lifetime home” for the following year’s Parade of Homes.
During the building process for that first Universal Designed Parade home, Jody grew frustrated with the lack of good sources for accessible products such as elevators, stair lifts, barrier free showers, threshold ramps, etc.
EZ Able® Begins
In 2008, Jody combined her ideas from building an accessible home, her previous building experience, her technical expertise from engineering, and her passion for helping people into a new company – EZ Able® - with one mission.
Our Mission
Helping people EASILY find solutions that help foster independent living.
EZ Able® now sells accessibility products nationally and currently offers expert installation solely in Michigan.
“Life is meant to be enjoyed. It is hard to explain, but I feel like I have been ‘called’ to do this work. All of my seemingly unrelated experiences have pointed me here, to this one spot in my life,” - Jody Fisk
Building, creating, ever-changing, and helping people - that is EZ Able®.
